OTACOOL Rooms

A compilation of bedrooms of an otaku. Do you know which is my room? It's not in this gallery. My room is pretty messy so it's not ideal to take photos now... Less talk, more pics.

Best Figure Award Voting

Every year, otakus and collectors will vote for the best produced figure of the year. The year 2009 winner was Good Smile Company's 1/7 scale Saber Lily Distant Avalon, defeated finalist is 1/8 Black Rock Shooter Original version, also produced by Good Smile Company. I know the number of anime figurine collectors is close to zero in aimst - except me. But, at least, I'd like to post something informative about things going on in the anime community out there. This is an official competition, not some random votes by a fan.

I happen to own both figures. Saber Lily is a very rare item right now. Her release price was 9800 yen (RM 430) and now Yahoo Auction Japan has listed her value at 21,000 yen, and the bid increases. That’s close to RM 1000. Mine costs almost RM 550 when I bought her last time. If I were to sell her now, I can sell double, but I won’t.

BEFA 2009 Winner: 1/7 Saber Lily Distant Avalon by Good Smile. Her current minimum market value is RM 900+.

BEFA 2009 Defeated Finalist: 1/8 Black Rock Shooter Original Version by Good Smile. Her current value/price is between RM 400-440.

For this year, the finalists is up against Good Smile Company's 1/8 Black Rock Shooter Animation Version VS Alter's 1/8 Momohime. You can vote at www.befa-awards.com.

I have Black Rock Shooter Animation version, which I bought for RM 420. Momohime’s picture sample is

an official photo, not a photo of my figure. I don’t have her.

BEFA 2010 Finalist: 1/8 Black Rock Shooter Animation version. Her current value is RM 400-440. You can get her for lower in Japanese sites though because she is a relatively new figure and widely available.

BEFA 2010 Finalist: 1/8 Momohime by Alter. Her current value is RM 330-360.

Wonder Festival Winter 2011

Japan's Wonder Festival, called WonFes, is held around 4 times a year (each season) is an event used to promote, launch or announce new merchandises, especially anime figures. WonFes 2011 Winter began on 7th February this year.

I have been working on the event coverage, focusing on the products displayed managed to provide a full coverage of the event in my blog, and also the gallery of my blog's facebook page. The Facebook page is more complete with a gallery of almost 200 photos, mostly upcoming figurines. Do take a look if you are interested. I will upload and share the photos in the gallery of this blog if possible in the future. We're talking about 200 photos here, or possibly more. Enjoy.

Small Competition Coming Up (Updated)!

Ok, here's some bit of news coming up for our club members. I've been working on a game for our club members - at least we have some game related to anime right? So far, I'm working on 2 games almost done. Both competitions involve crossword puzzles of different forms. The first competition will include all males and females attending the meeting, except me who made the competition. I will decide whether to hold the competition judging on member attendance. There will only be one winner, and the winner gets a small mystery gift - not sponsored by club funds, but by me myself. Well, don;t expect hundred dollar figures, of course LOL, but it is something practical which you can use everyday, =)

This first competition will be a find-the-name crossword. To get a rough picture of it, it looks something like this. The arrangement of the names/words can be in 8 different directions: Horizontal, Vertical, or Diagonal (right to left, or left to right), in both directions (forward and backward) as shown by marked arrows in the sample pic above.

The rule is simple. You get 3 stages and you must complete all of them in 15 minutes (I will extend the period to a maximum of 20 minutes if everyone finds it a bit too hard, but i suppose, nope). The person with the highest points wins. The stages breakdown:

Stage 1: 15 anime character names is given. It can be a short name like "Shana" or a full name like "Megurine Luka". Find in the crossword and circle it. In can be arranged in the 8 possible directions as stated above. Easy right? Each correct/successful find carries 1 point.

Stage 2 (Updated): 5 last names of an anime character are given, with a clue what anime are they from. You find their first name in the crossword.

Example:  "Nakano", (K-On!). So, you find her first name "Azusa" in the crossword.

Also 8 possible directions, and each correct find carries 2 points. So, you need some knowledge in anime characters. =) To help you with this section, i recommend you check out the names of major characters (Both protagonist and/or antagonist characters (if present)) from these 8 anime online before the next club meeting, if you want more chances of winning. 6 names from 6 different animes out of a list of 10 animes stated below is tested.

K-On!, Bleach, Gundam Seed, Gundam 00, To Aru Majutsu no Index, Infinite Stratos, Naruto, Code Geass, Angel Beats! & Clannad.

Stage 3: One single question, and toughest - carries 3 points. The clue is being given right now here (and also in the competition, no worries). The question: Find the first name of a famous male/female J-pop singer. Male or female? That will be only revealed in the competition. Think of any artiste names that comes into your mind, and find his//her first name in the crossword, also in 8 possible directions.

For example, the name "Utada Hikaru" comes in your mind if i tell you to think of a famous female J-Pop singer. So, u find the name "Utada" in the crossword. No partial names of the artiste is given. You think up something, you find the first name. Good luck. =P

The 2nd different competition will be held other day. I will not reveal it yet,a nd involves ONLY MALES. No gifts this time, but the loser (lowest points) is punished. XD
